*Note: This is book #2 in The Rules series.

Synopsis:
Stuck spending the summer with his screwed up family, Gabriel Walker is bored out of his mind and looking for an adventure. And he seems to find it with the hot girl who lives next door. The attraction between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. Talk about the perfect summer fling…

Lucy isn’t what she seems. She doesn’t live next door—she’s the girl who’s been hired to house sit for the summer while the family goes on a worldwide vacation. If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can go along with that. After the summer, she’ll never see him again.

They don’t count on running into each other at college. Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s scared he feels the same. Will he still care about her when he discovers the truth?

My Review:

I absolutely love this series. Monica Murphy is quickly becoming one of those authors who I just have to constantly check if they have anything new coming. I love her writing style and her characters. Now, for In The Dark  Gabe and Lucy sure didn't waste any time, that's for sure. It was an immediate attraction from both sides. They were a perfect mixture of sweet and sexy and I really enjoyed that. I loved how Gabe constantly made her feel at ease not only with him but with herself. He made sure she knew that she was perfectly fine as she was and that he wouldn't change a thing about her- I thought that was so important because she was constantly literally measuring calories in her mind, dieting and dieting because she felt too curvy.

Although things did happen pretty fast and I'm not usually a fan of that (it often feels forced or just fake) I will say that thankfully, that wasn't really the case for this book. If I put aside the fact that it all happened very quickly, I would have enjoyed the book more. I guess I'm more about the build up of things sometimes. I did really enjoy Gabe and Lucy's story and I absolutely LOVED getting constant glimpses of Shep and Jade. The whole crew was there for the most part in the second half of the book and that made me so happy. This series has a wonderful set of sassy, sexy, hilarious characters. It's easy to get lost within the pages of this book. It kind of made me wish the characters were real and they were my friends. I can't wait for Tristan's book, coming this November!!
