Cold Fury #4
Sawyer Bennett
Released Sept 8th, 2015
The rugged men of the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team are winning hearts once again in another scorching novel from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett.

Stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With

his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top

of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a
pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for
him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty
shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker
gives him a fresh start.

The league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix

business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t

help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes
their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to
reclaim her man, the pressure is on Gray to step up and save a tender new love
before it’s too late.

My Review:
First of all, let me just start off by saying that this was a very important story in many different ways. It is important for women. It focuses a lot on gender inequality. I loved that about it. I loved that Gray went into this job knowing that it was going to be groundbreaking. A lot of people looked down on her constantly because they believed she had no business working a "mans" job. Then again, she proved them all wrong by the end of the book. She kicked butt the entire book. She was such a powerful, important character. She was determined and unbelievably smart- she knew what she was doing and she did a damn good job despite people constantly expecting her to fail. She was great at what she did and she made history. Gray is such a good role model for girls everywhere and I absolutely loved her character.
Now, on to the one and only Brick Wall- Ryker. Holy Hell, I am officially a sucker for Ryker. There is something about a single guy taking care of his daughters. I loved how devoted he was to them, how he understood them and always made sure he was around for them in any and all circumstances in which they may need him. It was so lovely, I constantly found myself smiling when reading about Violet and Ruby. Another thing is that he was such a sweet, genuine character who had no problem with kicking some butt whether it was in an arena or fighting for someone he loved. He was a perfect mix of an incredibly good, beautiful man and a bad ass brick wall when he needed to be. I would wear his jersey proudly.
It was just a very enjoyable read. There was a little bit of everything and that's always a good thing. There were parts that had me biting off my nails in anticipation as to what was going to happen next. One thing I really, really loved that I don't see enough in books is the beautiful father/daughter relationship that Gray had with her father. He encouraged her to follow her dreams but he always made sure she knew that he was proud of her and would always be there no matter what and I found that to be so important and it said so much about her character and the way she carries herself. I could list all the things I love but then again we would be here all night. I cannot wait for the next book of this series, I am absolutely hooked on these characters.
